EVERYTHING TO KNOW ABOUT LASH LIFTS AND TINTS

(and How They're Different than Lash Extensions).

If you have stubborn lashes, pointing downwards, sideways, or even tangled then chances are you have tried nearly everything on the market to convince them to stay up. Even with the smallest bit of mascara lashes can drop and this can lead to frustration.

While lash extensions are a great way to give volume and fill in patchy spots to your existing lashes, sparseness and length is not an issue for everyone. Sometimes we wish that our existing natural lashes would just stay up and show their full length.

Lash extensions are a more costly way to give our eyes a specific look.

A lash lift is a perm, but for your lashes.  No preparation needed.

Lash lifts and tints are performed with a number of perming and tinting products containing chemicals and preservatives. Depending on the salon, these products will vary both in their ingredients and ingredient concentrations. It is always recommended to call in advance and obtain the name of the product used for the service, and research in advanced whether there are any known sensitivities to the product and to understand the associated risk. It is also recommended to confirm what product is being used on the day of service, so that it matches the product of your previous research.

Clients should remove their contacts before the procedure and leave them out for the first 24 hours.

The product used in these services are irritants, sometimes toxic, and can result in redness, dry eyes, allergic reactions, increased risk of styes, or even chronic meibomian gland dysfunction.

WHO SHOULD NOT HAVE A LASH LIFT OR TINT?

Those who have had ocular surgeries like blepharoplasty (eye lifts) or LASIK surgery must not have lash lifts or tints for at least 12 months after the procedure.

Anyone with a history of eye infections, styes, eye allergies, sensitive eye, chronic dry eye or chronic watery eyes are not a good candidate for lash services.  It is recommended that they first consult with their eye doctor to qualify whether they are a candidate, and to rule out any existing medical conditions that may first require treatment.

HOW CAN I DETERMINE WHETHER A PRODUCT IS SAFE, OR WHAT THE INGREDIENTS ARE?

The Consumer Safety Director of Health Canada requires that Cosmetic Notification Forms be filed for all products manufactured or imported into Canada. This process requires declaring the ingredients and their concentrations (either specific levels or their ranges, even for proprietary blends). During the notification process all filers will become aware of any concerns about whether the product is lawful in Canada.  Further, all clients are encouraged to read the MSDS (Safety Data Sheets) in connection with any product that may be used during their service. Such sheets will identify what the specific risks are and related actions for medical care.

HOW IS A LASH LIFT DIFFERENT FROM LASH EXTENSIONS?

A lash lift is exactly that. It lifts and perms your existing lash hairs using a chemical perming product. Whereas lash extensions involve applying more (fake or mink) lashes to your lash line using a special adhesive. One service lengthens and open your lashes, the other fills in and provides more volume. dow
