Scalp Micropigmentation Is…
Scalp Micropigmentation or (“SMP”) is hair tattoo, a medical and non-surgical cosmetic tattoo that results in the illusion of closely cut hairs on a bald head, or the addition of density to a thinning hair line.
Is Scalp Micropigmentation painful?
Most clients find that Scalp Micropigmentation is not overly painful, though there is some level of pain and discomfort felt during the procedure. Recognizing that everybody has varying pain thresholds, what we consider to be painful is very subjective. Therefore, your experience will depend very much upon your own pain tolerance and comfort level. Generally, the majority of clients who undergo Scalp Micropigmentation rate the pain level between 3 to 5 on a scale from 1 to 10. You should at the most only experience a nuisance level of discomfort and not experience high or severe level of pain. As with general tattooing, there are areas of the scalp that are more sensitive than others to treat. These areas typically include the temples and the skin located just above the ears.
If you are concerned about the potential pain involved with your Scalp Micropigmentation service, you may ask that your doctor prescribe a pain reliever. Be aware that if you do decide to take a pain reliever before the procedure, you may need to arrange for somebody else to provide you with transportation, rather than driving yourself. Some clients may require breaks throughout the procedure, and this is perfectly normal and others are able to distract themselves with reading.
How much does Scalp Micropigmentation cost?
The cost of most Scalp Micropigmentation procedures in estimated by palm size. For every practitioner palm size the cost is approximately $1,000. The practitioner’s palm size determines the amount of area that can be covered relative to the resting position of the hand in a given time frame. The total cost of Scalp Micropigmentation can range depending on the size of area to be covered, but typically starts between $4,000 and $6,000. A consultation is an important part of determining coverage, density and ultimate cost.
Does Scalp Micropigmentation work?
Scalp Micropigmentation can last between 4 and 6 years before a touch-up or new application may be required. The process combines traditional and micropigmentation techniques. When performed correctly by a qualified professional it is possible to achieve a hyper-realistic recreation of your natural hair, giving the illusion that hair exists where it previously did not.
Does Scalp Micropigmentation damage hair follicles?
Scalp Micropigmentation does not damage hair follicles as the procedure involves working at a depth that is more shallow than that of the follicles themselves.
Scalp Micropigmentation Treatments for Women
Scalp Micropigmentation is not specific to any gender, and the process can be applied to anyone who would like to achieve a specific hair restoration look. Many women seek out Scalp Micropigmentation as a way to blend away areas of baldness or thinning hair. The process is just as effective and easily more natural particularly where there are already large areas of hair to work with.
How Does Scalp Micropigmentation Work?
It all starts with a consultation where we explore and understand your goals and set out what is possible, and what is not. We determine the natural hair colour and the boundaries of where your hairline should be. The ink is placed gently into the skin with an SMP pen. The pen, similar to a Tattoo Gun, rapidly places pigment beneath the surface of the skin producing the shadow and appearance of three-dimensional, natural hair. Every Scalp Micropigmentation process is unique, and it is all completely customized to you!

Who Is Scalp Micropigmentation For?
Much of the results found on the internet drastically increase client expectations. Amazing transformations can occur for people with large patches, or who lack hairline definition. But SMP is not for everyone.
SMP is a long term commitment. This tattoo method behaves the same way as traditional tattoo and as such it has the potential the blur out. So while recreating a full head of shaved hair is the goal, doing this procedure can sometimes result in a faded or blown out look. SMP should be reserve for more conservative cases and only once the hair loss or hair line has stabilized.
Performing hair line work when the hair line is still receding will result in an uneven an inconsistent look. Performing density work on hair loss areas will also result in new patches that may be difficult to match later.
Where SMP has been used in the wrong situation the client may be faced with expensive removal.
